Impact

Impact

When Student Reform Initiated, formerly STAR organization started as a club in St. Francis High School, a local private secondary school near Monrovia, we had a number of impacts. We were able to raise funds to provide and place sanitation materials in classrooms, open spaces and toilets for students. We also managed to facilitate a process that led to our school participation in the national debate, soccer, basketball and quizzing tournaments.

We also started a anti-bribery campaign that minimized bribery within the school for a short while. With our entrepreneurship training program initiated July 2012, we were able to successfully train 40 high school students from over 10 schools across Monrovia. These students were trained to develop solutions to problems that affected them in their schools and communities using the BUILD (Believe, Understand, Invent, Listen and Deliver) process.

Project 3I

As a pilot project, we set very simple expectations for ourselves as well as of the participants. However, we’re very glad with the results of the entire project (workshop & symposium). Participants claimed to have been empowered and given the know-how to make a difference in their schools and communities. Hear from some of the participants in their own words:

In their own words…

“I’m glad to have attended this workshop and thank you to SRI for giving us this knowledge and hopefully I’m now able to identify a problem in my school/community and come up with solutions” – Van Judges

“The BUILD Process is a part of life and I’ll certainly use it to make a difference” – Elvis Brown

Conceptual Projects

As far as we’ve been informed, three (3) of the participants have taken practical steps to apply the knowledge gained from the workshop to start new projects to make a difference in their schools and communities:

v Student Mohammed Donzo - Working on the establishment of “Emerging Leaders Club”

v Student Satta Wahab - Planning a mid-school year “All-Girls Leadership Workshop”

v Student Rennie Wahab - Started a Community Youth empowerment organization.
